Introduced in 2012, the new 6th generation SL (R231) was 140 kg lighter than the previous model, being made almost entirely out of aluminium. For Mercedes-Benz buyers, it remained the ultimate expression of sporting opulence and the SL model line remains perhaps the definitive face of this legendary luxury brand.  A design, in other words, that through its lifetime, has managed at different times and in different forms to define everything a sportscar should be.  

As with other Mercedes models, influences were drawn from the world of aviation, with gorgeous jet-turbine-style air vents dominating a wing-shaped dash with a centre console modelled on the flight deck of an aircraft. In 2016, the SL received a revised front end, front grille treatment and larger non-functional side 'vents' behind the front wheels. All variants also received adaptive LED front headlights with integrated daytime running lights and turn signals, leaving the below bumper intake area free from lighting. At the heart of the AMG SL63 is a 5.5-litre V8 'biturbo' M157 AMG engine which is capable of 577 hp and produces 900 Nm (664 lb/ft) torque at 3,750 rpm. The SL 63 also features trademark AMG 'twin lamella' front grilles and dual twin tailpipe exhaust trims as well as a carbon fibre composite boot lid.  

Supplied new by Mercedes Benz UK in October 2016, our car has had just two keepers, and has a full main dealer service history (7 services), original driver’s book pack, service invoices and MOT history and its spare remote key.  It will also be supplied with a 12-month comprehensive warranty.
