The XJ-S was introduced in September 1975. The design and development, directed by William Heynes, Chief Engineer and Technical Director had begun in the late 1960s by the code name of project XJ27, with an initial shape penned by Malcolm Sayer, but after his death in 1970 it was completed by the in-house Jaguar design team, headed by Doug Thorpe. Post-1991 XJ-Ss are particularly sought after, not least because they use galvanised steel body parts.

Priced at a huge £58,500 plus optional extras, these 6-litre cars sat at the very top of the Jaguar sports car range and are the most finely developed XJ-S cars manufactured. So well-executed were the XJ-S’s various updates, it managed to remain in production for an impressive 21 years, beating the E-Type’s sales record by attracting more than 115,000 customers worldwide.

The XJ-S is now a highly respected grand-touring classic, with the best examples of the two-seat full convertibles seeing an upsurge in values over the last few years thanks to increased demand. In V12 guise, it offers effortless performance, impressive refinement, and a great all-round driving experience.

Supplied new by Riders Jaguar, Truro, in January 1996, our XJ-S 6.0 has its original leather book pack, JDHT Certificate, history file with service invoices, spare keys, and every MOT test certificate since 2000. It has recently benefitted from a fresh service, Bosch battery and new Michelin Primacy 3 tyres. A comprehensive 12-month written warranty is also included.
