Hexagon Classics are very pleased to offer a pristine and enhanced example of the Jaguar MK II 3.8 manual sports saloon. Immortalised in countless 1960’s films and described at the time as ‘a convenient family car, a businessman’s express, a sports coupé and a grand tourer.’
SPECIFICATION INCLUDES: POWER STEERING, 5-SPEED GETRAG GEARBOX, DISC BRAKES, ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTOR, ELECTRICALLY ADJUSTABLE XJ40 SEATS, SEAT BELTS, 17” POLISHED WOOD SPORTS STEERING WHEEL, POLISHED WOOD GEARKNOB, POLISHED WOOD DOOR CAPPINGS, ELECTRIC WINDOWS, COOMBS REAR ARCHES, CHROME 72-SPOKE WIRE WHEELS, VENTED BONNET, KENLOWE FAN, HEATED REAR SCREEN, STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST SYSTEM, CENTRAL LOCKING. RECENT FULL BARE METAL RESPRAY. ROOF AERIAL, STEREO & AMPLIFIER FITTED.
The 3.8 litre engine is similar to the unit used in the 3.8 E-Types, having the same block, crank, connecting rods and pistons (but different inlet manifold and carburation). The 3.8 Mk II engine developed about 190 bhp by modern DIN standards. A 3.8 litre with the 220 bhp engine could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 8.5 seconds and could reach a top speed of 125 mph. Many members of the criminal fraternity and law enforcement employed the Mk2 3.8 as their car of choice.
Our example has recently undergone a complete back-to-bare metal respray. This car retains many of its original parts and was repainted inside and out by Hexagon Classics to an excellent standard. It’s third owner kept the car for over 27 years, and had the Jaguar restored between 2000 and 2011, primarily by Bristol Classics Cars and J.E Lavender. It was vastly improved, (at great expense), by the addition of several improvements to increase comfort, improve ease of use in modern traffic conditions, and of course add to the reliability. The Jaguar enthusiasts Club valued the car at £75,000 back in August 2010.
Cosmetically too, this MK II is captivating, finished in gleaming British Racing Green paintwork and boasting a full magnolia hide re-trim carried out to the highest standard. The interior woodwork has been refinished and re-veneered alongside the fitting of modern Jaguar XJ40 seating. Chrome wire wheels and a Moto-Lita wooden steering are also present. The whole ensemble looks quite superb.
Hexagon is delighted to provide this exceptional 3.8 MK II available for viewing at our London showroom.
