Our matching numbers DB6 Mk 2 Ex-FI has 3 Weber carburettors as per Vantage specification. This gives a significant power improvement over the 285 bhp of the standard DB6 according to the factory. The 5-speed manual car produced a reputed 325 bhp and our car is presented in this ultimate specification. Top speed was an amazing 150 mph.
Flared wheel arches on the DB6 Mk 2 accommodated the 6” wide wheels and high-speed tyres which improved grip and road holding. The seats were re-designed items from the DBS with contours to better support the passengers. Larger disc brakes were added which stop the DB6 Mk 2 from 100 mph to zero in just six seconds. Power steering and an electrically heated rear window were standard.
The DB6 differed from its predecessors in having a longer wheelbase which at 8′ 5¾” was 3¾” longer than that of the DB5. This meant more room for the rear passengers and made the DB6 more of a family GT which helped it to sell better than earlier models in the series. The bodywork was distinctive with a slightly higher roofline than the DB4 and DB5 and featured an aerodynamically- efficient abbreviated ‘Kamm’ tail.
Supplied new on the 16th February 1970 by Wharf Garages Ltd, Melton Mowbray, our outstanding DB6 Mk 2 retains its factory colour combination of Verde Acqua metallic with Tan Connolly Vaumol hide interior, as initially supplied from new by Aston Martin. This popular colour combination was used for motor show promotions of the DB6 Mk 2.
Upon Hexagon Classics’ acquisition, we commissioned a comprehensive mechanical overhaul by Aston Martin marque specialists Pugsley & Lewis at a cost of £42,000, and a complete interior re-trim at a cost of more than £10,000 was undertaken at Moto-Trim using the factory-correct Connolly Vaumol hides and Wilton carpeting.
Accompanying the car in the history file are the driver’s instruction handbook, original BMIHT factory build certificate, restoration pictures, tool roll, an Aston Martin DB6 MK 2 brochure, and a period Aston Martin DB6 road test report. This ultra-rare DB6 Mk 2 ex-FI is presented in turnkey condition throughout and is all ready for its new owner to enjoy.
