Hexagon Classics are delighted to offer this rare side oil-filler model of the Porsche 911 2.4S.  For a fraction of the market value of its racing stable mate, the 2.7RS, this is a top of the range 911 S offering incredible value. Just out of long term, (21 year) ownership, this is a prime matching numbers example of a model that simply deserves serious collectors’ interest.

SPECIFICATION

915 5-speed gearbox, metallic paint, Sports Seats, 6 x 15” Fuchs wheels,  black engine grille cover, rectangular door mirror, radio, speakers and antenna.

DESCRIPTION

For 1972, Porsche increased the 911’s engine size to 2.4 litres, by increasing the stroke from 66mm to 70.4 mm. Forged crankshafts were also used, the con rods were shortened by 2.2 mm and the big ends increased in width. The design of the lightened rods had been proven in the 917’s flat-12 racing engine.

A dry sump oil tank was relocated from a position behind the right rear wheel to a spot ahead of it. An external filler door was added so that oil could be added into the tank from outside the car. This move was made to improve the handling balance of the car.  Koni shock absorbers were also standard equipment for the top-of-the-range S model, along with new 15mm front and rear anti-roll bars, and a steel front spoiler. The new 905 5-speed gearbox had a greater torque capacity and was easier to use. First gear was in line with second gear for a change!

The 911 2.4S was originally supplied new in Basel, Switzerland in August 1972. Our car also comes complete with the original driver’s book pack, complete with booklets, original ownership documentation, MOT’s stretching back to 1998, and an extremely impressive history file chronicling all the regular maintenance.  The 911 S was treated to a bare metal repaint, including media blasting and epoxy primer, which was carried out by experts in 2016, and therefore presents in wonderful condition.

The car has recently benefitted from extensive mechanical works by Porsche master technicians and is now ready to be enjoyed.  Available to view now at our London showrooms.
