Originally launched in 1971, the R107 SL became one of Mercedes-Benz’s longest-running and most successful models, admired for its solid build quality, understated luxury, and effortless cruising ability. By 1989, the final year of production, the 300SL had matured into a refined, fuel-injected inline-six roadster featuring improved handling, galvanized chassis, enhanced cabin ergonomics, and modernized styling details, while retaining the unmistakable SL silhouette.
It boasts a very low mileage and has been cherished by previous owners, with the leather interior showing minimal wear. Complementing the very special electrically-operated soft top is the factory hard top, allowing for all-season usability.
The smooth 3.0-litre straight-six engine is paired to a silky automatic transmission, offering an effortless drive that is equally at home on long-distance grand tours or summer weekend jaunts. The Signal Red exterior remains vibrant, a striking match with the period alloy wheels and chrome accents.
Supplied new in July 1989 by Road Range Mercedes-Benz, Liverpool, it is complete with an excellent history file, MoT history, historic tax discs and of course a spare key. It was serviced in June 2025 and has also had a new Michelin tyre set fitted. With its desirable colour scheme, excellent condition, and desirable late-production status, this 300SL is a wonderful example of Mercedes-Benz craftsmanship and a compelling addition to any classic collection.
