In terms of luxury and build quality, few cars in history are able to match to the Mercedes-Benz 280 SE in this department. All examples where hand crafted and built to the highest possible standards and were created in order to help Mercedes-Benz take on the might of convertibles produced by companies such as Rolls-Royce and Bentley. This was Mercedes’ answer to the battle for which manufacturer would build the ultimate 4-seater convertible car.

Despite the 280 SE being produced with many different power units, it is the cars fitted with the 3.5 litre V8 that are most coveted and desired by motoring enthusiasts and collectors. In the car on offer here today, this fabulous engine is mated to the highly sought-after floor mounted 4 speed automatic transmission. The engine is very quiet, enabling the car to be used for long journeys in extreme comfort and luxury.

The car has recently undergone a full restoration by Australia’s leading Mercedes Benz restoration company, Sleeping Beauties of Brisbane. This was both cosmetic and mechanical and the work has been carried out to the highest possible standard, a standard that we here at Hexagon have not seen before. The car is therefore in near concours condition and is quite possibly the best available.

Alongside being completely restored, it must not be ignored that this is one the rarest 280 SE’s that you will find. The is an original RHD car and was supplied new to the UK in 1970. Accompanying the car today is the original handbook. There is also a detailed file to go with the car that shows extensive photographs of the restoration.
