Hexagon Classics are very pleased to offer this pristine example of the Jaguar MK II 3.8 overdrive. Immortalised in countless 1960’s films and described in period as ‘a convenient family car, a businessman’s express, a sports coupé and a grand tourer’. To replicate the work undertaken to this Mk II now would cost in excess of £100,000.
Our Mark II has undergone a ground up, fully documented restoration by marque experts. Stripped back to bare metal and found to be very solid, (no doubt thanks to its early residence in South Africa), this car retains most of its original parts and was repainted inside and out by Finishline of Graveley to an exceptional standard. The suspension, steering and brakes were all refurbished and improved using a Harvey Bailey handling kit, power steering and vented 4-pot disc brakes. Heated front/rear windscreens were installed together with new door seals and the metalwork re-chromed where necessary.
The engine, gearbox and rear axle were completely overhauled. The manual gearbox, a 4-speed synchro unit with overdrive, was treated to all new seals and refreshed internals. The 3.8 litre engine was stripped and fitted with a modern VSE rear crankshaft seal, refurbished cylinder head and new pistons, bearings and seals. Set-up for ‘fast road’ use, this Jaguar boasts a new clutch, performance exhaust, electronic ignition and twin 2-inch HD8 SU carburettors. Cooling has also been improved using an aluminium radiator. The heater has been uprated for the UK’s cooler weather and the body internally lined. A new wiring loom, all new switchgear and lighting, powered by an alternator housed in a dynamo body, and a Pioneer sat nav with DAB and Apple Car Play completes the cars impressive specification.
Cosmetically too, the interior of this MK II is captivating, boasting a full cream hide piped interior carried out to the highest standards by AV Classics. The interior woodwork has been refinished and re-veneered and updated Jaguar Group seating fitted. After a recent re-commissioning, Borrani style chrome wire wheels and a Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering were also fitted. There are three history files, including a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, spare keys and a USB drive with photographs of the restoration to inspect.
The Jaguar MK II is now available for viewing at our London showroom.
